Fortigent is Rockville, Maryland-based financial services firm offering specialized investment management, portfolio advisory and performance measurement services to our high net-worth individuals and advisor clients. Our Rockville, MD headquarters has an immediate need for an experienced DBA.
The DBA is responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of development, test, and production databases. The DBA is an integral member of the software engineering team will be responsible for reviewing all database design and implementation activities as well as reviewing and mentoring developers database usage and coding. Performance analysis and tuning are key responsibilities of this position. All development is based on the .NET framework and utilizes a SQL Server 2005 database in a Service-Oriented Architecture.
Our software development life cycle utilizes iterative and incremental development techniques in a small team environment. We use a continuous integration and build approach with emphasis on automated unit testing and a test driven development style. The overall approach is a mix of formal, process driven software engineering techniques integrated with Agile development methods.

Position Requirements:
At least 5 years experience as a DBA
Experience managing mission critical enterprise class database systems
SQL Server 2005 installation, configuration, and tuning
Ability to write .Net CLR methods within SQL Server a plus
Understanding of SQL 2005 try/catch constructs
Understanding of Common Table Expressions new to SQL 2005
Experience in SSIS (the DTC replacement)
Extensive experience using SQL Profiler for performance analysis
Ability to analyze the hardware needs for database systems and provide detailed specifications for the required hardware
Aware of hardware ramifications to data/log placement including RAID 1 versus RAID 5 to RAID 1+0 implementations
Ability to recognize when deadlocks occur and how to monitor for excessive locks and excessive blocking
Experience implementing transactional replication
Understand of different isolation levels including the newer Snapshot isolation
.Net C# experience a plus
The DBA must have excellent communication skills. They will be working with analysts, testers, and engineers. They will be mentoring as well as performing technical work.
